It takes a lot more than green thumbs…
Of course, the WBG depends on a crew of dedicated folks who love digging and planting, but there are many behind-the-scenes tasks that have to happen to keep the Garden operating.
Administrative: Volunteers assist the Board of Directors and Team Leaders with administrative duties such as correspondence and database management. We are looking for folks with computer skills and a high level of attention to detail.
Communications: Assist with writing, content and graphics creation for public-facing media, including the WBG website, online and printed publicity, eNewsletters, and the WBG’s social media presence. We are looking for writers, editors, and graphic designers. Some of the programs and platforms the WBG uses are Constant Contact, Eventbrite, Facebook, and Instagram, along with online submissions to media outlets.
Development and Fundraising: All funding for the WBG comes from donations. Grant writing and fundraising programs are essential to keep the Garden growing. Please show us the money!
Educational Outreach: The WBG sponsors regularly scheduled free programs for the public with the Learn and Grow Lecture Series. Volunteers find speakers and coordinate the arrangements for these presentations. This team may also coordinate with local educators for on-site classroom sessions, field trips, and study guides.
Gardening Team: Volunteers maintain the gardens and grounds by pruning, weeding, planting, watering, removing debris and sprucing up the WBG under the guidance of the Garden Board and Stewards.
Grounds Maintenance: This team takes on the bigger building and repair projects that involve muscles and power tools.
Photography Team: Volunteers capture the beauty of the flora and fauna of the WBG for our multi-media presence with stills and video imagery.
Private Event Coordination: Volunteers communicate and coordinate with people who wish to use the Garden for private events, such as small weddings, showers, and parties.
WBG Volunteers must complete an application process. Once accepted, volunteers will receive an orientation to the Garden that includes the WBG Volunteer Policies and Procedures.
