The native buttonbush in the garden is in bloom. The blooms look like a pincushion and attract a wide variety of wildlife and pollinators. There is a hedge of these shrubs in the butterfly garden. The buttonbush enjoys moist soil and the recent rains have made them flourish. The straight species can grow rather large at 8’ tall, but there is a cultivar ‘Sugar Shack’ that will mature at around 4’ tall. plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/cephalanthus-occidentalis/...
