Suburban Residential Landscape Design

This illustrated lecture by acclaimed landscape architect Gordon Chappell will feature a discussion on the dominance of the suburbs and their unique landscaping styles. We’ll consider how the typical lawn and foundation plantings affect wildlife and alternatives to a lawn. Lastly we’ll discuss balancing the desire to garden responsibly with expected garden maintenance.

Gordon Chappell is native Georgian but has now lived in Williamsburg for more that 40 years. He is a retired landscape architect and a Fellow in the American Society of Landscape Architects. Formerly Garden Director at Colonial Williamsburg, for the past several years has had a private practice of landscape architecture focusing on historic properties and private gardens. Gordon is a proud graduate of the University of Georgia’s school of landscape architecture with graduate work in environmental design. He is a frequent speaker on various garden and landscape design subjects.
