RESTORING POLLINATORS

February 20, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

February 20: LISA ZIEGLER, author and Newport News flower grower, will be presenting a double-header program held at the James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Road, Williamsburg, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. This event is part of the Learn and Grow Educational Series sponsored by the Williamsburg Botanical Garden. The program is free and open to the public; however, a donation of $5 to support the Williamsburg Botanical Garden at Freedom Park would be appreciated.

1) EASY SEED STARTING includes the practices that are at the root of the success and beauty of Lisa’s flower farm; starting from seed and caring for the soil as the most precious gem.  The program includes how to plant seeds directly in the garden and starting indoors using the English soil blocking method.

THE GARDENER’S WORKSHOP POP-UP SHOP will be offered during the break and immediately following the programs.  Gardening tools, supplies and seeds will be on sale to benefit the Williamsburg Botanical Garden.  www.shoptgw.com

2) RESTORING POLLINATORS shares how to bring back flowers to the vegetable garden and landscape to provide habitat and food sources for native pollinators.  Learn how Lisa’s large community of native bees and other pollinators came naturally as a result of growing flowers without chemicals.
