GROWING HERBACEOUS PEONIES
November 21, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
GROWING HERBACEOUS PEONIES—On November 21st from 10:00 till 11:30 am, come join us to learn about growing peonies. Mike Lockatell from Roots & Blooms, LLC located in North Chesterfield, VA will be presenting “Modern Herbaceous Peonies for Central Virginia Gardens”. For the final program in the Williamsburg Botanical Garden’s 2015 Education Series, Mike will use digital slides to discuss proper planting and maintenance practices for these drought-tolerant and deer-resistant perennials. He will review under-appreciated American bred hybrids in single, Japanese, Semi-Double and Double flower forms.
Mr. Lockatell was formerly a seasonal vendor at the Williamsburg Farmers Market from 2005 to 2013, specializing in herbaceous peonies, reblooming irises and companion perennials. A member of the American Peony Society, he has donated some “hard to find” varieties to the Botanical Garden plantings. Visitors can see these selections blooming each spring from mid-April to early May. Bare root divisions can be purchased after the program for fall planting.
This presentation will be held at the Freedom Park Interpretive Center, beginning at 10:00 and is open to the public. The program is free. However, a donation of $5 to support the Williamsburg Botanical Garden at Freedom Park would be appreciated. This event is part of the Learn and Grow Educational Series, sponsored by the Williamsburg Botanical Garden. For more information, please contact Mike at www.rootsandblooms.us or call 804-330-2916.
