What's Blooming Now
in the Ellipse Garden?

JUNE IN THE ELLIPSE GARDEN:

In the bluebird house donated by the JCCW Master Gardeners, four bluebird babies fledged and now there are another 4 incubating! The meadow surrounding the house is bursting with black-eyed susans and other plants of various colors.

Over at the feeders, donated by Wild Birds Unlimited, goldfinches love the nyger seed, and many common wild birds visit the other feeder.

The butterfly bushes, lantanas, blanket flowers, and tickseeds are butterfly magnets. While blooms in the garden are a little thin at the start of this month, many plants are heavy with buds and should cover the garden with color in a few more weeks.

Workers on June 9 removed most of the weeds throughout the Garden; there is still work to be done. If you have some time, please stop by and deadhead the perennials with empty seedheads, pull some weeds, and give us your ideas about plants you would like to see in the Garden. Another work day will be scheduled soon. Helen Hamilton
